For the past years, schools in the United States had made a thorough research about common core subjects like math and reading, however, some are thinking of what about the arts? Although some may think that art classes are just a waste a money for the parents.
Most common creative activities where children are involved in building blocks as a backup for a child development. To create and most of all to appreciate visuals may be a more effective way of child development of the next generation as they grow up.
Here are some of the benefits of Art to a child
Motor Skills –
motions of the body involves in making an art such as scribbling with a crayon or maybe holding a paintbrush are very important to the growth of motor skills to the children. Around the age of four, a child may be able to draw a circle of square shapes and then the cutting part may also be developed as they follow the grid lines draw into a paper where the shape is visible.
Language Development –
for young children, making or even talking about art provides an edge to learn words for colors, actions or even shapes. in elementary school, they can use descriptive words let them discuss their very own creation, what they feel that is elicited when they see different kinds and styles of an artwork.
Decision Making –
As per Americans for the arts, it strengthens critical-thinking and problem solving of a child, it is how art teach them to make a decision by themselves and choice of creating art carries over into other parts of life. as for the saying of a well-known author of numbers of an art book and an art educator, “If they are exploring and thinking and experimenting and trying new ideas, then creativity has a chance to blossom.”
Visual Learning –
Threading beads on a string are all developing visual-spatial skills, drawing and even sculpting clay are additional channels. for this generation, we can already prove that even a toddler as early as 3 years old can navigate a smartphone or even a tablet which evidently means that before a child can read, they already taking visual pieces of information.
As parents, we have to be aware that our children are even more into a graphics source than we are before. We have to let our children know instead of focusing their learning through numbers and text, they need to know about the world where they live and what can bring to them in the future.
When our kids are encouraged to express themselves and once they take risks in the field that they want especially in creating arts, they develop a sense of innovation which are relevant when they grow up. And as per Kohl, “Art is a way to encourage the process and the experience of thinking and making things better!”
These go for inventive people who always seek a new way of improvement.
Cultural Awareness –
As we live in a diverse society, media may also present mixed messages. Kids understand the concept that what they see maybe someone’s interpretation of reality. and as Freedman saying, “If a child is playing with a toy that suggests a racist or sexist meaning, part of that meaning develops because of the aesthetics of the toy-the color, shape, texture of the hair,”
Improved Academic Performance –
There is a study that there is a correlation between art and other achievements. And also says that most young people are the ones who are regularly participating in arts, and it is four times more likely to be recognized as an academic achievement. Participating in math and science fair or maybe to win an award as they also participate in some essay writing contest.
This is the power of art in every child of our generation, so let us guide them for they may become one of our national artists someday.
